As a case study, the British Government's "New Dimension" is an initiative in response to the events of 9/11 to ensure that Britain's fire and rescue services are able to cope with major chemical, nuclear, biological and conventional terrorist incidents on a national scale.
As part of the plan, incident response vehicles are required to provide a mass decontamination facility at the scene of a chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear incident.
Each vehicle carries two decontamination units, each capable of treating 200 persons an hour. Supporting equipment includes disrobe and re-robe packs, pumps, water heaters, lights, hoses, gas-tight suits and detection and monitoring equipment such as radiation dosimeters and survey meters.
Recognizing the success, mobility and adaptability of the Moffett in everyday incident responses, Hiab Moffett truck-mounted forklifts were specified as standard equipment on these vehicles. Once on location, the Hiab Moffett can be used for a multitude of tasks including rapid vehicle unloading of the container pallets and as a highly maneuverable all-terrain mobile material handler.
